This project was the main part of the Master's dissertation. The main goal of the project was to create a five minute video that uses newly developed techniques. The video is a promotional video for the BMW 7 series. To emphasize the elegance and dynamic performance of the car and to be true to the origins of BMW in Munich, the metal ballad "Nothing Else Matters" in a cello interpretation was chosen as music and the scene was set in the "Kaiserhof" of the Munich "Residenz" (former seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings). To realize such an ambitious project on a student budget, an efficient and flexible method for integrating real humans into a 3D environment had to developed, as motion control was to expensive. The method consists of an array of 19 cameras (for 180°) which are placed around the actor who is in front of a semi-circular green screen. From the resulting data, an arbitrary virtual view can be generated using optical flow.
